We can manage the contents of a website by using the Content Management System(CMS). The content management application (CMA) and the content delivery application (CDA) are the two main elements of Content Management System. The content manager or author, who may not knowing Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) can manage the creation, modification, removal of the content from a Web site by using the CMA element. He doesn’t need the help of a webmaster to manage the contents of a website. The CDA element stores that information and updates the website by using that information. Web-based publishing, format management, revision control, indexing, search and retrieval of content are the main features of a CMS system.
The Web-based publishing feature permits the individual users to use wizards, template or a set of templates approved by the organization and other tools to create or modify Web content. The documents like legacy electronic documents and scanned paper documents can be formatted into HTML or Portable Document Format (PDF) for the Web site by using format management feature. By using revision control feature, we can modify the contents of a website to a new version or can restore it to a previous version. The changes made by individuals to the files can be tracked by revision control. Additional features are search, indexing, search and retrieval. A CMS system indexes all data within an organization. Then by using keywords, individuals can search for the data retrieved by CMS system.
A collection of procedures which are used to manage work flow in a collaborative environment is called as Content Management System (CMS). These procedures can be computer-based or manual.
• These procedures allow a large number of individuals to contribute to a website and also to share stored data.
• Based on user roles, these procedures can control user access to data. User roles define what information each user can view or modify.
• These procedures are designed to store and retrieve the data easily.
