Autonomous Vehicle with Obstacle Detection

The main objective of the proposed project is to develop the Obstacle Detecting Autonomous Robot by using Ultrasonic Detectors. The main purpose of this project is to find an obstacle in the path of the robot with the help of Ultrasonic Detectors and to avoid the collision between the robot and the obstacles.


Nowadays all organizations are automating their system to reduce the manual work and to face the new challenges. Main advantages of Automated systems are their accuracy, reliability, user-friendliness and they will reduce manual works. Due to these benefits, now each and every field wants automated control systems.

Especially automated systems are very useful in the electronics field. The unmanned systems plays very important role in the present scenario of war situations and by using these systems we can reduce human losses. This robot is very helpful to do the operations such as obstacle Evidence etc.

We designed an automated unmanned system around a microcontroller which changes its path whenever any obstacle is found in its path.

In this project, we designed a robot which moves in its path all the time. Also, this system is embedded with ULTRASONIC detectors and they are used to detect the obstacles in the path of the robot. All the devices like motor, ULTRASONIC detectors by which robot is made to move are interfaced to the microcontroller which forms the control unit of this project.

The robot will move to here and there in the standby mode. Whenever ultrasonic detectors detect an obstacle in the path of robot, the same is sensed and is intimated to the microcontroller. Then the micro controller changes the path of the robot by driving the motor in a respective direction.

This project detects its place in the places where one wants to develop the automated system with some intelligence.


Ultrasonic detectors determine the attributes of a target by interpreting the sound waves or echoes from radio respectively. They are also called as the transceivers. These detectors will work on a principle similar to the radar or sonar. Ultrasonic detectors create high frequency sound waves and determine the echo which is received back by the detectors. To determine the distance to an object, detectors will calculate the time interval between sending the signal and receiving the echo.

By using this technology we can measure the fullness of a tank, speed through air or water and wind speed and direction (anemometer). A device uses multiple detectors to measure the speed or direction and then calculates the speed from the relative distances to particulates in the air or water. The detector will measure the distance to the surface of the fluid, for measuring the amount of liquid in a tank. Further applications include medical ultrasonography burglar alarms, sonar, non-destructive testing and humidifiers.

According to this project, we can develop a robot to detect the obstacles on the path of the robot and avoid the collision with other obstacles.
