The main aim of the Intranet Chatting System project is to develop a system for chatting with the remote clients or users on internet or local networks. In this project, a client can chat with the remote users using a Java client/server combination. If a Client wants to communicate with a user on a remote host, he will send a request to the Server using an identification name like chat-id. The server will receive the client’s request and checks the client-id in the server domain. If the match is found then server will accept the client’s request. Later, the client can start chatting with the remote users available on the local network or internet.
The internet integrates the LANs located across diverse software with the hardware and creates a single large communication network that spans the globe. The client requires a client software like Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer to chat and to retrieve information on the WWW. WWW supports chatting, text, video and audio and it is also called as Net surfing.
The advantages of Internet chatting over other chatting tools are given below:
1) In this project, the programmer can create applet applications using Java. These applet applications are machine independent and they uses the internet as a server. So we can run java programs on any computer through internet.
Intranet Chatting project is completely supported by the client/server model. The interaction between client and server is like an interaction between an electrical socket and a lamp. A client is an entity that wants to gain the access to a particular server. A server contains some resources that can be shared on internet. The server is a permanently available resource. Different types of servers are given below:
1) Compute server- it provides computing power.
2) Web server- it will store the web pages.
